Module objectives/intended learning outcomesStudents are able to explain the chemical and physical properties, extraction/production methods, and the uses of elements and their compounds from groups 1, 2, and 13 in the periodic table through literature studies related to current issues in the field of inorganic chemistry, either in groups or individually.Students are able to explain the chemical and physical properties, extraction/production methods, and the uses of elements and their compounds from groups 14 and 15 in the periodic table through studies related to current issues in the field of inorganic chemistry, either in groups or individually.After attending this course, students are able to explain the chemical and physical properties, extraction/production methods, and the uses of elements and their compounds from groups 16, 17, and 18 in the periodic table through case discussions related to current issues in the field of inorganic chemistry, either in groups or individually.
ContentThis course is designed to provide an understanding of the physical and chemical properties, extraction/production methods, and the uses of elements and their compounds from main group element chemistry, namely hydrogen and elements from groups 1, 2, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, and 18. Assignments are given to train students’ independence, accuracy, and critical thinking processes.
