Module objectives/intended learning outcomesAfter actively attending lectures (C), students (A) are able to conclude the factors that influence success in business in general and those related to chemistry in producing various products used in everyday life (B, C4), so that they are able to produce these materials (P2) and manage them appropriately (D, A4).After actively carrying out lectures (C), students (A) can propose innovations to increase added value which, as far as possible, involve chemical concepts (B, C3), so that they are able to make products (P2) to convince consumers on a limited basis (D, A3).After actively carrying out lectures (C), students (A) can explain the process of making several chemical products that are popular in everyday life (B, C3), so that they are able to open up insights into chemical applications (P2) for learning purposes at school (D, A3).
ContentThis course discusses the factors that influence business success in general and those related to chemistry. It also discusses innovations that increase the added value of products from several materials resulting from the application of chemical concepts, including essential oil distillation, the manufacture of medical salt, bioethanol, biodiesel, soy sauce, syrup, butter, margarine, herbal medicines, soap, and cosmetics. Furthermore, it can also be required to gain experience through practical work in the manufacture of several products resulting from the application of chemical concepts on a home industry scale, with an emphasis on the description of materials, composition, work procedures, product analysis, and product marketing.
